It’s so critically important for Christians to know the areas of the body that demons attack because we’re in a spiritual war. In order to effectively fight our enemies, we must know how they operate.
“Whoever has no rule over his own spirit
Is like a city broken down, without walls.”
– Proverbs 25:28
This scripture compares the spirit to a city. Just like a city, we have multiple areas in our bodies where demons can infiltrate and set up shop. We’ll go over these different areas and expose their tactics together.
If a person has no spiritual defenses, they will be left vulnerable to demonic attacks. By educating ourselves in spiritual warfare, we’ll be able to fight better for the benefit of the Kingdom of God.
All scriptures are taken from the NKJV unless otherwise noted.
Whenever you’re dealing with someone who has a negative attitude or emotion, there’s a demon behind the scenes at work. These types of demons gather in gangs or pacts with one another. For example, if a person allows themselves to come under the influence of a demon of rejection, then they can soon find themselves under the influence of a bunch of its friends. Rejection can lead to self-pity, loneliness, depression, despair, and so on.
A demon of rebellion can invite demons of hatred, resentment, unforgiveness, anger, and violence. Since all of these are closely connected it’s important to stop the first one before it can invite any more.
“Then He asked him, “What is your name?”
And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion; for we are many.”
– Mark 5:9
In many ways, the mind is the battlefield. All of our words and actions stem directly from the mind. Therefore, if an enemy can place up a stronghold in the mind, it can be successful in its ways. There are many ways demons attack the mind. Some of these include:
- mental illness
No doubt, there are many more. However, those are just some so you can understand the type of battle in the mind we’re up against.

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”
– 2 Corinthians 10:4-6
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit.”
– Proverbs 18:21
There are demons that attack the tongue and many of them succeed. The Bible tells us that no man can tame the tongue. (James 3:8) If we leave our tongue and words unchecked by the Holy Spirit, we can find ourselves in a lot of trouble. Some ways our enemies attack the tongue include:
- idle speech
- foul language
I’m sure there are many more that are not on this list. A good way to catch demonic speech is to grow in discernment by the power of the Holy Spirit.
“Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth;
Keep watch over the door of my lips.”
– Psalm 131:4
“And as for you, be fruitful and multiply;
Bring forth abundantly in the earth
And multiply in it.”
– Genesis 9:7
Sex was created by God for the glorification of God. Therefore, sex is not bad, it’s good. However, this area is so easily corrupted by demonic forces. Sexual lusts are very difficult to control which is why the Lord created marriage the way He did. When you have a spouse, you can relieve your sexual desires in a godly way and create children.
Every compulsive sex act or perversion is demonic. Anything that differs from a man and woman in a marriage setting is unrighteousness and caused by a demonic force.
Sex demons are running rampant in our society today and many churches are welcoming them. It’s resulting in the breakdown of families and societies, yet churches are endorsing it.
“He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created.”
– Genesis 5:2
Demons love to pervert the desires of humans. It’s okay to enjoy eating food, but it’s a sin to lust after food and become a glutton. There are people that just can’t seem to help themselves but to go for the extra serving of junk food.
Another area that lustful demons attach themselves to is the eyes. There are some men who simply cannot look at a woman without looking at her in a perverse way. That’s not normal because not all men have that issue.
A person can find themselves lusting after almost anything. When the flesh becomes too strong to handle, it’s almost certain that the person will be ruled by various lusts.
“And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”
– Galatians 5:24
Every inch and aspect of the occult is demonic. Stay away from it at all costs. The occult can include many variations such as:
- black magic
- tarot cards
- palm reading
- ouji boards
There are many more that aren’t on that list. They’re all infested with demons and by introducing yourself to them you’re inviting demons. If you’ve ever interacted with any of these things, confess it as sin, repent, and leave it alone.
“When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you. “
– Deuteronomy 18:9:12
Every false religion is ruled and control by demonic beings. Demons have two main objectives:
- To keep people from knowing Christ as savior
- To keep people from effectively serving Christ.
By setting up false religions, the enemy is effectively keeping people from knowing Christ as savior. The enemy is an expert at false religions and has infiltrated many Christian churches as well. It’s true that there can be people who have spent their entire life at a Christian church who do not have a real, sincere relationship with God through Christ.
Also, if demons can keep Christians from learning the truth in God’s Word, they can keep them from living a truly God-led, purpose-filled life for the Kingdom of God.
A heresy is an error in Christian doctrine. This would be the same and the enemy infiltrating a Christian church. If he can get a large portion of the body of Christ to believe something other than the true Word of God, then people would either never come to know Christ as savior or would not have the necessary tools and knowledge to win souls to Christ.
Heresy is dangerous because it poses as something true and may even get some things correct. Some truth mixed in with just the right amount of false doctrine is a perfect recipe for lukewarm or fake Christians. Indeed, I believe we’re seeing more and more of those today as we approach the end of the times.
There are many times throughout the Bible that we see the enemy afflicts physical bodies. Some of these include:
- The deaf and mute man (Mark 7:31-37)
- Job (Job 2:7)
- The woman with blood (Mark 5:25-34)
- The epileptic (Matthew 17:14-21)
- The blind man (Mark 8:22-26)
- The paralytic (Luke 5:17-25)
- The demon-possessed man who was cutting himself (Mark 5:1-20)
- Woman with a spirit of infirmity who couldn’t stand straight (Luke 13:10-17)
Jesus went and healed multitudes of people who had all sorts of physical illnesses. Every time He went casting out demons, He also healed people. I don’t believe that’s a coincidence.
It’s true that demons affect these different areas of the body, but there are times when we’re waring against our flesh. A good way to know for sure if it’s a demon is to use this list. This list includes:
- To defile
- To weaken/make sick
These are ways our enemies attack. So for example, there’s a difference between telling a lie and being a compulsive liar. If someone lies, that may be their flesh and they can overcome that through the power of the Holy Spirit by renewing their mind and reading the Word. However, if someone is a compulsive liar, that’s more than likely a demon at work.
Another example would be the difference between feeling self-pity and being enslaved by self-pity. The emotion of self-pity may come from a demon, but we can overcome that by casting down that demonic stronghold. However, if someone is enslaved by a spirit of self-pity, they’ll have a much harder time being delivered from it.
One more example would be a sickness that no doctor can fix. If you’ve tried everything and there’s no cure, it’s likely there’s a demon working in that area.
Overall, use wisdom and discernment. Pray and seek God and I have no doubt that He’ll expose wickedness and darkness if you ask.
There are many different areas of the body that the enemy will try to attack. These include:
- The emotions/attitudes
- The mind
- Physical body
