Different Types Of Fasts

Unfortunately, there are many Christians who are unaware of the powerful impact of fasting and praying. I believe we’re missing out on the great benefits of the Kingdom of God and many victories over the enemy. There are different types of fasts outlined in the Bible. I want to go over them with you and discuss their differences.

All scriptures are taken from the NKJV unless otherwise noted.

Complete Fast

While there are times God may lead us to abstain from liquids as well as foods, it’s extremely dangerous. There are only two times in the Bible where fasting was done in this way for an extended period of time. These characters were Moses and Elijah. In both of these instances, they fasted forty days. However, they were under incredible supernatural circumstances and I don’t believe we should try to imitate their behavior. Read more

How Should I Break A Fast?

Fasting may be new to many people. I hear a multitude of people all over the world saying they feel God calling them to fast and pray. If you feel God leading you in that direction and have questions, I’m here to help. I’ll do my best to answer the question, “How should I break a fast” in this post.

Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”

What Is The Gospel Of Jesus Christ?

The Gospel (Literally, the Good News)

Let’s boil down the Bible to its main point: It is written in hopes to save your soul for eternity, extended by God as a free gift to be received by faith in the Lord Jesus, who paid the price for all sin at the cross of Calvary. Sin is the barrier that keeps us from a perfect God and even the “smallest” sin is enough to keep you separate from God forever. Death is the payment for sin, so either God makes you pay for your own sin with eternal death in the Lake of Fire, or someone else takes your place instead, which no one else is able to do because they have their own sin to pay for.

But there is good news! There is a man who did not sin and offered to take your place in death, going to the cross to pay for it!  His name is Jesus, the Christ!  if you ask the Lord Jesus to forgive you of your sin and put your trust in His work, making Him your Lord and Savior, you will be saved, your sin will never be remembered by God as Jesus paid for the wage of sin by His death (the barrier to God is gone), and you will have eternal life, starting now while you are still alive and going well past this mortal body into eternity! What Should I Expect During A Fast?

If you’re sensing God pull you in the direction of a fast, then I’d like to answer the question, “What should I expect during a fast?” People who have never fasted before may have no idea what to expect. Therefore, I want to try my best to prepare you as much as possible so you’d be successful in fasting.

All scriptures are taken from the NKJV unless otherwise noted.

Depending on how long you’re fasting, you may want to take extra measures to protect against constipation. Before and after fasting, eat foods that are rich in fiber. This would include fruits, vegetables, oatmeal, salads, bran cereal, fruit juices, etc. Of course, this is something you’d have to take into consideration for yourself, but I recommend it.

When fasting, take extra time for prayer and reading your Bible. If you feel like you have no time, I’d like to point out that you have the time that would normally be spent eating. Therefore, take that time and read the Bible and pray. Spend some time concentrating on the goodness of God in worship and focus on Him. Read more

How Long Should I Fast?

There are many reasons Christians should fast. When starting out, there are a bunch of questions people end up asking. One of those is, “How long should I fast?” I’ll do my best to answer that question for you.

Fasting can be different for everyone. However, if you’re just starting to integrate fasting into your lifestyle (or haven’t started yet), I wouldn’t recommend starting with a long period of time. Don’t try to begin with a whole week or even a whole day. While some people start there and achieve it, I wouldn’t want you to become discouraged.

If you choose too long of a period and don’t achieve it, it can discourage you and deter you from trying again. Just like with anything else, starting with a smaller, more attainable goal would be better.

If you’re new to fasting, begin with abstaining from your last meal of the day. For example, let’s say you eat at 3 pm and usually eat again around 7 pm. I would start by fasting from 3 pm to the next day at breakfast time. Read more

To Humble Oneself

“I humbled myself with fasting…”

– Psalm 35:13

In Psalm 35, King David claims that he humbled himself through fasting. God asks us repeatedly throughout the Bible to humble ourselves. This is something God expects us to do in obedience to Him. He claims He will exalt those who humble themselves. (Matthew 23:12)

If you want God to exalt you, then you must humble yourself.

The Lord lifts up the humble;
He casts the wicked down to the ground.”
