There are so many benefits of giving thanks to God. In reality, a Christian should live continually giving thanks to God because of all the wondrous things He has done for us. However, I see so many people who claim to believe in God and don’t have anything great to say about their lives, themselves, and others. It’s unfortunate, but I pray that by reading this list you will give thanks to God more and more throughout your days.
All scriptures are taken from the NKJV unless otherwise noted.
You’ll Be Happier
If you want to increase your wealth in happiness, you can instantly do so by expressing thanks and gratitude to God. There’s so much we can be grateful for. For one, we have the truth of God that saves our souls and redeems us from the evil one. The blood of Jesus is a gift we do not deserve and meditating on that gift is sure to make your day better.
Other than the precious blood of Jesus, we all have some material possession that God has given to us that we can be grateful for. I know how truly blessed I am to have clean water, plumbing, a car, a home with a sound roof, an air conditioner for the summer, a heater for the winter, a microwave, a refrigerator, and so much more. These are just the basics, but there are many people in the world that don’t have these things.
It’s easy to forget all of our needs that God has taken care of. Many older people remember a time when they had nothing close to what they currently have. In America, you can do and achieve anything. If you live here, that’s certainly another reason to give thanks to God.
Another great gift of God is family. My family is the greatest thing God has given me. I’m so blessed to have them. If you feel the same way about your family or friends, be sure to express your thanks to God and praise Him for how great He is.
Your Love For God Will Grow
Once you realize that everything wonderful you have comes from God and He deserves the thanks for it, your love for God will grow. It’s impossible to not grow deeper in love with God when you continually think on and thank Him for all you have.
As Christians, we should want our love for God to grow so this is definitely a quality benefit.
Your Relationship With God Will Grow
Because your love for God will grow, so will your relationship. Many people fail to acknowledge and speak to God throughout the day. By spending more time giving thanks, you’ll automatically be spending more time with God. This will cause you to grow closer to Him. You may hear His voice in response to your praise, which is always a good thing.
One sure way to grow your relationship with God is to practice thanksgiving and give praise regularly. It’ll make you happy, bring glory to God, and you will feel a bond growing between you two.
You’ll Grow In Humility
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”
– James 1:17
Thanksgiving causes you to realize that everything you have a gift from above. Therefore, it causes you to become more humble and recognize that you can do nothing without God. God is so faithful to His people and we should never take the honor, glory, or credit away from God.
Don’t miss out on this wonderful tool to grow in humility and become more like God. After all, humility is a fruit of the Spirit.
You’ll Trust In God More
There’s no doubt that living with an attitude of thanksgiving will cause you to trust in God more. Understanding that everything comes from God makes you understand that He can be trusted. He has a beautiful track-record in providing and taking care of you. Why would that change now?
Whenever you feel stressed out or have no idea how a problem will be solved, praise, and give thanksgiving to God. Remind yourself of all He’s previously done and you’ll become convinced that He will not abandon you in your problem. If there’s anyone or anything that can be trusted, it’s the Lord.
The benefits of giving thanks to God daily can be truly life-changing. How would you like to experience more happiness throughout your day and have a strategy to overcome worry at its onset? That’s exactly what thanksgiving can do for you.
That’s why I believe it’s incredibly important to give thanks to God and express praise every day. Remember, no one else can be thankful to God for you. You have to do it yourself. If you don’t already do this, then please make an effort to get started today. If not, then definitely tomorrow!
