A demonic stronghold is a mental fortress taken by demonic forces in the mind of people. There are many different types of demonic strongholds. I’ve written a post about 12 different demonic spirits– all of which can set up a stronghold.
Before we get into how to remove demonic strongholds, it’s important to understand that only God can remove them. By ourselves, we do not have the power to go up against demons. It’s spiritual warfare that has to be fought in the spiritual realm. Also, God is the only force in the universe that’s powerful enough to defeat these beings.
However, God is not a spirit that anyone can use. His power is only available to those who have a relationship with Him through salvation. Therefore, only a believer in Christ can use the force of God to expel evil forces.
Now that we’ve established the ground rules for casting down demonic strongholds, we can get into the process of doing so.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”
– 2 Corinthians 10:4-6

Pulling Down Demonic Strongholds
The first step to anything is identification. In order to fix something, you must know there is a problem. Once you’ve identified the stronghold and know what it stems from, then you can move on to the next step.
The very next thing you want to do is repent. Since the strongholds have demonic roots, it’s evident that any actions coming from that fortress will be sinful. Humble yourself. Confess the sins you’ve committed in relation to that stronghold. This will break its power over you and give it over to God.
After confessing your sins, be sure to express gratitude to God and thank Him for His grace, mercy, and forgiveness. Doing this will activate your faith and solidify the benefits of confessing your sins.
Up until this point, we’ve paved the way for the destruction of demonic strongholds. We’ve given the power over to God, confessed our sins, and decided to not let those thoughts have any more power over us.
Now, concentrate and visualize the dismantling of the stronghold. Imagine it happening. Then, through the Holy Spirit, ask God to release you from these demonic forces.
Make sure you take all these actions in faith and the belief that God will set you free.
“And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.“
– Matthew 21:22
After everything is said and done, it’s incredibly important to begin to rebuild what the enemy has destroyed. For example, if he’s attacked you with a spirit of depression then it’s time to meditate on and practice joy. The Bible tells us to lead every thought captive into the obedience of Jesus Christ.
It’s not enough to get rid of bad thinking habits but you must replace them with entirely new and beneficial thoughts. The best way to do that is to gather an arsenal of scriptures. The Word of God is the Sword of the Spirit. It’s the weapon God has given us to defeat the enemy.
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
– Romans 12:2-3
Taking back your mind and body from the enemy is easy if you know how to do it and have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. All you have to do is follow these simple steps:
- Humble yourself before God, putting your situation into His hands.
- Identify the stronghold that’s afflicting you.
- Repent of all the sins you’ve committed because of the influence of the stronghold.
- Participate in thanksgiving for God’s grace, mercy, and loving forgiveness.
- Envision the stronghold being completely dismantled from the roots.
- Through the power of the Holy Spirit, ask God to release you from these evil spirits.
- Once free, replace those previous bad thoughts with highly effective godly thoughts.
Don’t make the mistake of getting set free and then slowly going back into captivity. Practice your freedom daily by continuing to praise God for His Work and faithfulness. Meditate on the Word of God and refuse access to the enemy. The victory will be yours through Jesus Christ!
