If there’s anyone in the world who should have a sense of confidence, it’s the believer in Jesus Christ. The reason I say this is because God is the only factor that’s unchanging in this ever-changing world. He’s our rock, our foundation, trustworthy, and faithful.

However, just because a believer should have confidence doesn’t mean they will always feel confident. I’ve certainly had moments of uncertainty that caused a sense of nervousness. Also, there are believers who struggle with confidence and that’s okay. That’s why I want to go over a few ways Christians can have more confidence that will help you in your everyday life.

All scriptures are taken from the NKJV unless otherwise noted.

Learn Who You Are In Christ

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

– Ephesians 2:10

When someone becomes a born again believer in Christ, they are a new creation. (2 Corinthians 5:17) There are many scriptures that can be found throughout the New Testament that help us learn who we are in Christ.

If you sign up for my free offer, you will be able to learn more about who you are in Christ and how to apply it. When you learn and accept what the Bible says about you, you can be more confident in how you live.

have more confidence

For example, before I met Christ I struggled deeply with depression. I hated myself, my life, and thought I would never be ‘good enough’. But that completely changed when I met God. I found out that He loves me and has a great future planned for me. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Whenever I’m feeling a lack of confidence, I remember that God is with me and will never leave me. God brought me here for a reason and He will see me through any situation. I may not know what will happen, but I completely trust God with my life and that brings me a sense of confidence.

I’m confident in God, not myself. He rules everything and loves me deeply. There’s no need to be fearful or anxious. If God is for me, then who can be against me? (Romans 8:31)

Remember That God Is Always With You

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

– Romans 8:38-39

God is ever-present with you. He’s promised to never leave your side. That’s why you don’t have to let your lack of confidence overtake you. You can be confident that God will make a way even when there appears to be no way.

For example, David was still a young man when he defeated Goliath. The entire Israelite army, which consisted of men and warriors, were petrified by the monstrous man. David, however, was not afraid at all. He was confident in the Lord.

Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.”

– 1 Samuel 17:45-47

He had the skill of fighting, but he ultimately gave the fight over to God. He said that by being victorious that day all the earth will know the God of Israel exists. The stakes were high, but he had no reason to fear because God doesn’t lose.

Decide To Act Confident Even When You Don’t Feel Like It

“Life is ten percent what happens and ninety percent how you respond to it.”

– Lou Holtz

Everything in our lives come out of our minds. Every habit we have was first a thought in our minds. Every word we’ve ever uttered came directly from our mind. If we want to change our world, we must first change our minds.

That being said, is it surprising that we can think ourselves into being more confident? Just because you don’t feel confident does not mean that you can’t act confident. It lies in a decision. Are you going to let the feeling of inadequacy dictate how you run your life? Or will you decide to run your life as if you were confident?

I once had a manager who was a great friend and guided me in my own career as a manager. He told me something I will never forget. I had recently been promoted and was struggling because it was a lot to learn. So I was expressing how I didn’t like it because I felt like I was under-performing.

He opened up and told me that when he took his position he didn’t know how to do it, either. He had to learn as time went on. Very plainly he told me that sometimes you have to “fake it ’til you make it”.

That motto has always stuck with me. Whenever I’m in situations that call for a decision and I don’t know what to do, I ask myself, “What would I do if I did know what to do?”

Sometimes you have to make confident decisions, even if those decisions aren’t always the right ones. It’s the process of life and it’s called learning.

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.”

– Theodore Roosevelt

Make Goals And Know What You Want

“Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines practiced every day.”

– Jim Rohn

I know from personal experience that a sense of inferiority can come from a lack of direction in one’s life. Therefore, it’s extremely important for everyone to set goals for themselves. The goal itself doesn’t matter as much as the result of knowing you’re heading in a direction you want to go.

I’ve asked many people what they had planned for the future and so many of them don’t know. They’re just going with the flow of life, but sooner or later life is going to pass from you. You cannot stop or turn back the clock. The time to act is now.

It took me quite a few years of exploring to figure out my purpose in life. It took me even more time to submit to my purpose because I thought I didn’t want to be a writer. But God knows exactly what He has planned. Ask God and evaluate your life and who you are.

What talents do you have? What are you naturally good at? How can you use that to help the kingdom of God? Where do you want to be next year? In 5 years? In 10 years? Really think about these things and start making difficult decisions to set yourself on the path of where you want to go.

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”

– Proverbs 29:18 KJV

Educate Yourself

What is something you’re passionate about and can talk for hours about? How much do you know about that topic? I can guess you probably know a lot. Knowing a lot about a topic naturally breeds confidence.

Whenever you can, study up on a topic that you would normally feel insecure about. For example, after I learned how to be a very effective and productive manager, my confidence soared. I knew my job and what was expected of me. I always exceeded my job description and did everything the very best I could. Therefore, there was nothing anyone could say to me that would make me feel like a bad manager.

Educate yourself. Read books, blogs, watch documentaries, etc. Do whatever you have to for you to feel like you have a great deal of knowledge about whichever topic is bothering you.

Pray And Believe

Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

– Mark 11:24

In every circumstance in life, the most necessary thing for you to do is to pray. Pray about everything and pray all the time. But don’t only pray, believe that God hears and that He will answer your prayers.

The Lord has guided your steps and got you to the very moment you find yourself in right now. That’s why it only makes sense to believe that He will deliver you and make you a conqueror in every situation.

After praying in the Spirit, you’re likely to feel emboldened by the grace of God and His presence within you.

Christians should feel confident in their lives. They’re called and are walking with the creator of the universe. However, we’re still humans and there are times when we feel less than or inadequate. That’s okay! There are steps you can take to combat this, such as:

  • Learn who you are in Christ
  • Remember that God is always with you
  • Decide to act confident even when you don’t feel like it
  • Make goals and know what you want
  • Educate yourself
  • Pray and believe

After trying these steps out, you’re sure to have a new sense of confidence and be ready to conquer the challenges the world is trying to throw at you.
