For many people who are beginning in Christ, there is a real struggle to see yourself the way God does. We read the Word. We understand that God loves us, but it’s hard for us to truly see ourselves His way. We know our past and sinful ways. Therefore, it’s hard to overcome that and value ourselves the way we should.
Getting saved by Christ is a humbling experience. We recognize that without Jesus, we are nothing and could never be anything. God alone saves and preserves us. However, that doesn’t mean we’re worthless. Actually, it’s quite the opposite.
Jesus pleaded with God because He did not want to go to the cross. Yet, he endured the cross for the joy that was to come because of it (Hebrews 12:2). You’re extremely valuable. If you can’t fully see that yet, it’s okay. We’re going to take a look at some scriptures that will help you value yourself more if you meditate on them and fully believe them.
All scriptures are taken from the NKJV unless otherwise noted.
God Created You
“For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.”
– Psalm 139:13-14
God created you and knows everything about you. Nothing about you is surprising and He’s proud of His creation. You’re created in His image and says you are wonderfully made.
Is there something about yourself that you don’t like? Maybe acne, a deformity, or some sort of flaw? That’s okay. We all have something we think could be better, but God thinks you’re perfect just the way you are.
Everyone is made differently and you cannot compare yourself to others. He didn’t run out of parts while making you, causing you to have misfit parts. He used every piece that He wanted you to have.
Look at all of God’s creations. From the mountains, rivers, oceans, and the sky, they are absolutely beautiful. We look at them and marvel at their beauty. Did you know you’re more beautiful to Him than those things? You’re the only creature He decided to breathe into and make in His own image. That’s why humans are different. He loves you.
Every time you look in the mirror, see yourself the way He does: As a beautiful, wonderful creation that was created wholly and wonderfully.
Nothing Is A Surprise To God
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.“
– Revelation 22:13
God knows everything. There’s nothing that surprises Him and He doesn’t make any mistakes. Therefore, if there’s something about you that you think disqualifies you from His love then you’re believing a lie. It’s simply not true.
God loves you very much and decided to send Jesus to die on the cross even before you ever thought of repenting. He did that because He wants to have a special relationship with you.
Whatever flaw or defect you think is holding you back from God’s love, learn to see it the way God does. You’re perfectly imperfect. Embrace your whole self and allow yourself to be accepted by you.
We Are His Children
“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.”
– 1 John 3:1
If you’re a parent, then you know there’s nothing more valuable in this earthly life than your children. Most parents would do anything for their kids and sacrifice so much to ensure they have a better future. This is true for God, also.
He loves His children and tells us in His word that we are His kids. There’s nothing more valuable to Him.
In fact, there will be a day when He destroys everything else. The world and the heavens will be remade and He will take His children with Him to the new Jerusalem where He will reign.
Humans think diamonds, gems, money, cars, and the like are all valuable. Yet, these very beautiful things have nothing on the creatures He created in His image.
Even if someone has told you before that you are worthless, don’t believe them. That’s a lie straight from the mouth of Satan. You are God’s most prized possession!
We Are Royalty
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.“
– 1 Peter 2:9-10
Since we are His children and He’s the King of the universe, then that means we are royalty. We should honor and respect one another and expect to get that kind of treatment in return. We are His own special people. People who don’t have God are missing out on the most amazing thing.
Therefore, God expects us to share His love and word with whoever will listen. If they don’t believe it, fine. But always do whatever you can to try and share the goodness of God with others.
When you look in the mirror, remember that you are special. God values you like royalty. You are not worthless and you are not a nobody. You’re a very special somebody in the eyes of God. Start conducting yourself like it.
You Are Bought And Paid For By The Blood Of Jesus Christ
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.“
– 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Nothing in the universe can compare to the value of the blood of Jesus Christ. Yet, God chose to trade His blood for your soul. He bought you back from hell and gave you a new life in Christ.
Jesus is God’s only son. If you know anything about the relationship between a father and son, then you know that there’s nothing more sacred and important. However, God allowed Him to go through the worse kind of pain and death in order to pay for your sins.
Never doubt your importance and value to God.
By now, I pray you can see that there’s nothing God values more than you. If you have a hard time truly believing these things, then put these scriptures where you can see them daily. Repeat them out loud and constantly remind yourself of their truth.
Once you do that, you’d be surprised at the change you’ll feel within you. Allow yourself to trust God’s word and begin to see yourself the way God does. It will absolutely change your life!
