More than ever I’m realizing that many people who claim to be believers in Christ are confused and are being deceived by many. The best way to counter this is to share the truth about Satan. Jesus tells us in John 10:10 the three main ways the enemy attacks people.

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Steal

Anytime there’s theft involved, you can be sure it’s a plot of Satan. However, sometimes Satan gets away with stealing without you even knowing that’s what is happening. For example, a lot of people are operating under a spirit of fear and worry because of the government’s response to the virus. The Bible is clear about fear and worry being a sin, but can you recognize that the two are stealing from you? They’re stealing the peace that Jesus gave you!

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

– John 16:33 NKJV

The enemy works to steal your joy, your health, wisdom, God’s Word, and every good thing God has blessed you with. Be sure to stay prayed up, on the offense, and full of the Holy Spirit!

Kill

All throughout the world’s history, there have been murderers who have caused mass genocides. It’s normal to wonder, “How could someone be so evil?” Whenever you think of evil, remember that evil is not something, it’s someone. That’s why history is so strange if you don’t have the Holy Spirit.

But if you have the Holy Spirit, you understand that history is a story about Satan versus God. Humans are made in God’s image and Satan hates that so much that he seeks to kill God’s image by killing people. Therefore, when you look at the news and see horrific headlines it’s important to understand that Satan is behind these things.

If you haven’t read Pawns in the Game by William Guy Carr yet, then I highly suggest you do. It was written in the 1950s by someone who really knew his stuff. It’s all about how Satan uses people in high and low places to carry out his plan against God and mankind. Communism seems to be his favorite avenue and my husband had a vision about that! I haven’t finished the entire book yet, but so far it’s amazing! You can find the PDF file for it here.

As if people weren’t enough, Satan also seeks to kill your hopes, dreams, and purposes. He seeks to utterly destroy you which leads us to our next point.

Destroy

God created everything. Satan hates that so he wants to destroy what God has created. He’s worked relentlessly throughout history to kill off the Israelites, yet God preserves them to this day. He wants to destroy anything beautifully made in the image of God. This is why it’s more important than ever to pray for your children and the children of others.

During the summer of 2020, BLM riots went viral. The videos broke my heart, but there were ‘Christians’ in my life that were supporting this behavior. They believed that these people were somehow justified in burning down communities and building with tremendous value. But that’s destruction. They were destroying stuff. That’s not the spirit of God, but the spirit of Satan. I wrote at length about the current status of America in another post.

The enemy is behind anything that has to do with destruction or destroying something. However, there are exceptions to this rule. For example, God destroyed the earth in a flood, didn’t He? I just want to clear up that it’s not evil to destroy wickedness. Leviticus 24:17 states, “Whoever kills any man shall surely be put to death.” Those of us who believe that human life is sacred also believe in capital punishment.

Therefore, the best way to judge if destruction is from God or Satan is to see what’s being destroyed. Is it wickedness or goodness? Does it push society closer to God’s will or does it destroy God’s will? God only destroys wickedness and sin.

Conclusion

The three main ways the enemy attacks people are by stealing, killing, and destroying. Once you learn to recognize these things, then it’ll be clear what spirit others are operating under.
