All scriptures are taken from the NKJV unless otherwise noted.
Ways To Invest In Yourself
Take time to learn. The value of growth to a person is tremendous. We need to learn and grow. Read books or watch documentaries. Listen to great teachers that will help you reach your goals. Develop your vocabulary. Always push yourself to learn more and more. It’ll greatly increase your happiness and may change your life.
Eat better. Remember the phrase, “You are what you eat”? How many people are actually getting the recommended 5 servings of fruits and vegetables they need each day? Are you drinking enough water? Most people know the answer to these questions. What we eat has a huge effect on our bodies. If we want to have a better quality day, start with eating better quality foods. Eat less processed and fast foods. Eat more whole foods such as fruits, veggies, whole grains, beans, and meats. Look at the packaging and don’t buy foods that are full of chemicals. Cook more meals at home. All of these things would make a difference.
“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
– 1 Corinthians 10:31
Exercise daily. The Lord has created us to move. We have so many joints, tendons, and muscles for a reason. Decide to use them. Make exercise fun. Start walking, swimming, lifting weights, playing with your children or grandchildren, playing a sport such as tennis or basketball. There are many great ways you can get exercise. Find what works for you and do it.
Rest properly. Exercise is important, but so is resting. It’s necessary for you to get the correct amount of sleep each day so your body can recover and heal. God created us in such a way that we cannot survive without sleep. Don’t neglect it. Go to bed earlier to make sure you get all the rest you need.
Develop your skills. What are the things you are naturally good? We all have some skills that we do well. God has given them to us and we should spend time to develop those skills even further. How could our skills help others and pull them closer to God and their purpose?
Get rid of some bad habits. The bad habits we hold onto steal our time and joy. Let go of procrastination, bickering, blaming, complaining, overeating, and every other action that is robbing us from our true potential.
Create better habits. Quitting bad habits aren’t enough. We will soon find ourselves heading back into the bad habits we let go of if we don’t have a better and healthier alternative. Your new habit could be anything, such as crafting, gardening, walking your dog, cooking, reading, etc. There’s something out there for everyone.
Build your confidence. There are many ways a Christian can have more confidence. A person who has confidence in God and themselves is a happy person. Learn what the Bible says about your identity and focus on what you’re good at. Spend time with others that are positive and encouraging.
Take advantage of the time you have. The time we have here on earth is limited. Every second and every day is a wonderful gift from God. Don’t allow the enemy to steal your life away. Cut out the things that aren’t beneficial to your life and reinvest that time in one of the ways we’ve already discussed.
“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.“
– Ephesians 5:15-16
There are many ways to invest in yourself. If you get creative, you can find even more ways. Life becomes way more enjoyable when we invest in ourselves. It’s also a way to worship and glorify God.
