5 Necessities To Win In Spiritual Warfare

Make no mistake, the war we’re in is very real. Although invisible, this war is one of the most crucial things we must partake in as a believer of Christ. We cannot allow the enemy to gain territory into our lives and must fight the good fight of faith. That being said, here are 5 necessities to win in spiritual warfare.

#1. Submit to God and His ways.

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

– James 4:7

Submitting yourself to God can be one of the most difficult things for a person to do. It’s what happened in the garden of Gethsemane. Jesus was pleading with God to remove the cup He was about to endure from Him. Yet, He submitted to God and said, “Not My will, but Yours be done.”

We must come to that point in our walk with God if we want to be successful in fighting against the spiritual powers of the kingdom of darkness. There are many reasons for this:

  • We have to fight the way God tells us to.
  • As believers, we must obey His word and stay as far away from sin as possible.
  • We have to believe the Word of God and apply it.

Just like a soldier must submit to his authority figures, a believer in Christ should submit to God and His ways to be successful.

#2. Ignite your passion for the purpose of the Kingdom.

A sure way to set yourself up for failure is to ignore this tip- be passionate for God and His purpose in the world. This spiritual fight is not an easy one and it’ll be way too easy to quit if you don’t have a compelling reason to continue.

What’s your reason for following God? Why do you love Him? What are you willing to do for the Kingdom of God? These are questions you need to ask yourself in order to have a lasting desire within you to fight.

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”

– Proverbs 29:18 KJV

#3. Discipline yourself for success.

“But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”

– 1 Corinthians 9:27

In order to be successful in any area in life, we must be prepared. This area is no different. How can we expect to be victorious over the enemy if our Bible is never open and our prayer life is non-existent?

Therefore, you have to be sure you’re getting time in with God every day. Stay on the offensive so that you’d never have to take the defensive side.

Stay alert and notice when the enemy seems to be gaining territory. As soon as you see any slight sign of His tactics, cut it off and cast it down.

This isn’t something that’s easy to do all the time. Yet, God expects us to fight these beings and stay holy.

#4. Have faith that you will be victorious.

“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

– 1 John 4:4

As with anything else, you must believe that you’ll be victorious in this battle. You have to know without any doubt that God is with you and will fight your battles.

Remember, you’re not fighting with your own strength. You’re fighting with the strength and power of God that is found within you. The Holy Spirit is your guide and will show you what to say and what to do is perilous situations. Therefore, you don’t have to fear when evil comes your way. God is more powerful than any other power source in the universe.

The only thing the enemy can try to do is lie and convince you otherwise. But if you know the truth, then you know he cannot touch you in these battles.

#5. Become familiar with the weapons of warfare.

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints…

– Ephesians 6:14-18

By studying and understanding the weapons that God gives us to fight with, we now have the upper hand in battle. Imagine going to war and having no idea how to shoot a gun. You’d be a goner in no time, for sure.

Therefore, make it a point to study the weapons and how to use them.
