What Does The Word ‘Seal’ Mean In Hebrew?
chowtham- seal.
chatham- to close up; to affix a seal.
“And she wrote letters in Ahab’s name, sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters to the elders and the nobles who were dwelling in the city with Naboth.”
– 1 Kings 21:8
What Does The Word ‘Seal’ Mean In Greek?
sphragizo- to stamp with a signet.
This term is used to indicate permanency and security. It’s used to speak of Jesus’ grave (Matthew 27:66) and the doom of Satan (Revelation 20:3).
Metaphorically, this word is used to speak of the sealing of believers by the gift of the Holy Spirit, which is received upon believing.
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
– Ephesians 4:30
“Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.“
– 2 Corinthians 1:21-22
