What Does The Word ‘Soul’ Mean In Hebrew?
nediybah- nobility, reputation.

Its basic meaning refers to the essence of life or the act of breathing.
The best biblical definition is found in Psalm 103:1. It’s defined as “all that is within” a person.

And all that is within me, bless His holy name!”

The Hebrew language compares and contrasts “the inner self” and “the out appearance.” These terms can also mean “what one is to oneself” as opposed to “what one appears to be to others.”
The soul of a man, which moves to the afterlife, needs atonement to enter into God’s presence.
Also, God has a soul.

But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.”

What Does The Word ‘Soul’ Mean In Greek?
This word refers to the breath of life, that vital force which animates the body. The soul is regarded as a moral being designed for everlasting life.
“Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.”
– 1 Peter 2:11-12
The soul differs from the body because the body is dissolved by death.
“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.“
– Matthew 10:28
Ultimately, the soul of a person is what Jesus died to save. All of our bodies will eventually pass away and decay, but our soul will live forever. That’s why it’s so important to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior- to spend eternity with Him in heaven.
